As the Miami Beach Chamber of Commerce prepares for its 100th Anniversary Gala on May 9, this year’s event is shaping up to be more than a celebration but a reflection of the business and civic leadership helping shape the future of Miami Beach.
Set to take place at the Loews Miami Beach Hotel, the black-tie evening will recognize a group of honorees whose influence spans development, hospitality, media, healthcare, philanthropy, and community advocacy.
According to Chamber President and CEO Brittnie Bassant, this year’s honorees were selected because they represent “the heartbeat of Miami Beach today.”
“As we celebrate the 100th Anniversary Gala of the Miami Beach Chamber of Commerce, we wanted to recognize individuals and organizations that have not only contributed to our city’s legacy, but are actively shaping its future,” Bassant said. “They represent innovation, resilience, community leadership, and a deep commitment to making Miami Beach a better place to live, work, and do business.”
This year’s honorees include developer David Martin, who will receive the Corporate Citizen of the Year Award, V&E Hospitality for Excellence in Tourism, television personality Louis Aguirre with the Jan Pfeiffer Distinguished Service Award, and Dr. Martin Karp, recipient of the City National Bank Beach High Outstanding Achievement Award. The Chamber will also recognize past Chamber chairs as “Members of the Decade.”
For Bassant, the common thread between each honoree comes down to impact.
“Each honoree, in their own way, has gone beyond their role or industry to create meaningful change in our community,” she said. “Whether it’s through business leadership, philanthropy, public service, or advocacy, they all share a commitment to elevating Miami Beach and investing in its continued growth.”
Chairman Alfredo J. Gonzalez echoed that sentiment, pointing to the broader role business leaders play in the city’s growth and identity.
“These honorees are not only leaders in their fields, but they are also deeply invested in Miami Beach,” Gonzalez said. “Their contributions go beyond business success. They’ve helped strengthen our economy, support our residents, and elevate the overall quality of life in our city.”
The gala also serves as a fundraiser for the Miami Beach Chamber Education Foundation, which supports Miami Beach feeder-pattern public schools through grants, classroom resources, environmental initiatives, and campus improvement projects.
“The Foundation ensures that our investment stays local and creates lasting opportunities for the next generation,” Bassant said.
Beyond the awards and philanthropy, organizers say the gala is designed to bring together a cross-section of Miami Beach’s business and civic community at a time when collaboration and local investment continue to play a major role in the city’s future.
“This event is truly for anyone who cares about Miami Beach,” Bassant said. “It’s a celebration, yes, but it’s also a moment to connect, reflect on our shared progress, and invest in the future of our community.”
Gonzalez said public recognition also serves a larger purpose for the Chamber and the community it represents.
“By celebrating these leaders publicly, especially during a milestone like our 100th Gala, we’re not only honoring their achievements, we’re also inspiring others to get involved, give back, and lead,” he said.
