There are many non-profit organizations serving the Aventura and North Miami Beach area. These are great avenues that represent causes such as children’s advocacy, animal protection and Miami’s less fortunate. They are the voice for the voiceless and the soul of Miami.

The Humane Society of Greater Miami has been helping homeless animals in MiamiDade County since 1936. Today, more than 300 homeless dogs, cats, puppies and kittens each day are cared for at the Soffer and Fine Adoption Center in North Miami Beach. We are able to give these animals a second chance by providing tender loving care, a good meal, shelter and medical care for as long as it takes to find them homes with kind, responsible and committed caregivers. Adopt-A-Pet, one of the many programs within the organization, believes that the building of a more kind, just and loving community for the pets and people of Miami-Dade County begins with instilling the values of kindness and compassion. At public and private schools, scouting troops, special needs groups, local libraries, various community youth organizations as well as adult organizations, the Humane Society of Greater Miami teaches the young and old appropriate lessons about kindness to animals, empathy, responsible pet care and the causes and results of pet overpopulation. Anyone who has ever owned a pet knows of the unconditional love and acceptance pets bring. The Humane Society of Greater Miami’s Pet Therapy Program brings the unique and healing human/animal bond to residents and patients of healthcare facilities, rehabilitation center, children’s hospitals and senior citizen homes across Miami. It is well documented that interaction with animals can significantly improve humans’ physical and emotional health. Simply put, The Humane Society takes care of the pets in the Greater Miami area because they make people feel good!

I Have A Dream Foundation empowers children in low-income communities to achieve higher education and fulfill their leadership potential by providing them with guaranteed tuition support and equipping them with the skills, knowledge, and habits they need to gain entry to higher education and succeed in college and beyond. Several core beliefs drive everything they do at “I Have A Dream”; including, preparing all students for college will enable them to fully capitalize on the collective talent, that  nearly all students can achieve at a high level when given the opportunity, and an early start is needed to get the students on the pathway to college. Currently, more than 3,158 Dreamers are on the way to college in 17 states, Washington, D.C., and New Zealand, following some 12,000 Dreamers who came before them. Their approach is unique in that they sponsor students in under-resourced public schools or housing developments, and work with these “Dreamers” from early elementary school all the way through high school. Upon high school graduation, each Dreamer receives guaranteed tuition assistance for higher education. I Have A Dream Foundation is working to ensure that all children in this nation have the opportunity to pursue higher education and to fully capitalize on their talents, aspirations, and leadership to have fulfilling careers and create a better world.
