Jensen’s Liquors Eddie Cruz Buys His Dream Store
Sunset Corners, an iconic landmark in Miami, has long been a cornerstone of the community. Owned by Mike Bitell and Larry Solomon for the past 70 years, this beloved institution has served countless locals from its prime location on the bustling northwest corner of Sunset Drive and 87th Avenue. This store isn’t just another liquor store; it’s a piece of Miami’s history, cherished by generations.
As time went on, Mike and Larry decided it was time to pass the torch and spend more time with their families, enjoying the fruits of their labor. Enter Eddie Cruz, a man who understands the importance of family and legacy. Eddie’s journey in the liquor business began at the tender age of 13 in 1978, when his father, Eduardo Cruz, purchased Seminole Liquors on NW 7th Street and 50th Avenue. From that moment, Eddie was hooked, learning the ropes and developing a passion for the industry.
Over the years, Eddie and his family have bought and sold seven properties, including multiple liquor stores. Their strategy has always been to own the property and operate the business, ensuring stability and growth. Eddie’s stores, known as Jensen’s Liquors, have become renowned for their hard-to-find wines and exceptional selection, a testament to their commitment to quality and customer satisfaction.
For years, Eddie dreamed of owning Sunset Corners. Living nearby, he would often tell his wife, Nidia, about his wish to own the store. His dream became a reality, illustrating the power of manifestation and perseverance. “Being able to own that store is more of a dream than an ambition, and I want the tradition to continue for the neighborhood and community,” Eddie proudly states.
This sentiment echoes the famous words of Walt Disney: “All our dreams can come true, if we have the courage to pursue them.” Like Disney, Eddie pursued his dream with relentless passion and dedication, proving that with hard work and determination, anything is possible.
Eddie’s plans for the store include updating its look and remodeling it to restore its former glory. He envisions weekly wine tastings and spirit samplings on Friday and Saturday evenings, bringing the community together to enjoy fine beverages and camaraderie. These events will not only attract more customers but also create a vibrant social hub, enhancing the store’s legacy.
The key takeaway from Eddie Cruz’s story is that dreams, when combined with hard work and persistence, can indeed come true. Eddie’s journey from a teenager in his father’s store to the proud owner of an iconic landmark is an inspiring example of what can be achieved through determination and a clear vision.

And Eddie Cruz is not done expanding his legacy. He is eyeing other properties with liquor stores to expand his portfolio. Like the McDonald’s franchise, which owns the properties their restaurants operate on, Eddie understands the strategic advantage of owning the land. It ensures long-term stability, allows for more control over the business environment, and significantly increases the asset value. One liquor store at a time, he is making sure South Florida receives the best liquor experience. With almost 50 years of experience in acquiring liquor stores, Eddie has the blueprint for success. Stay tuned for new stores coming to a location near you!
