The Coconut Grove City Update for August 2025 reflected a community anchored in education, resilience, and culture. With students returning to class, residents gathering for heritage festivals, and leaders aligning for storm readiness, the Grove embraced both its responsibilities and its spirit.
Leadership Updates
Mayor Ken Russell
The Good: Mayor Russell expanded Clean Grove 2025 by announcing partnerships with five additional residential blocks, bringing total citizen participation to 17 neighborhoods.
Working On: Coordinating citywide waste management routes with Miami-Dade to ensure long-term sustainability of the program.
City Manager Emilio Gonzalez
The Good: Gonzalez oversaw the Storm Readiness Forum (Aug 28), which brought together city staff, emergency responders, and over 400 residents. Distribution of updated storm evacuation guides reassured the community mid-season.
Working On: Securing FEMA funding reimbursements for prior storm-related infrastructure projects, still tied up in review.
Commissioner Damian Pardo (District 2)
The Good: Commissioner Pardo pushed the Sidewalk Equity Proposal into the city’s budget discussion, ensuring Grove neighborhoods remain central in accessibility upgrades.
