Christian Chamber of Greater Miami 2015-2019
The Christian Chamber of Greater Miami (CCOGM) journeyed on a path of faith and community service that began in 2015. As the sun rose on April 15th of that year, over 130 business professionals representing a myriad of faiths and cultures convened at the Devon Seafood restaurant in Kendall. This was not just another networking event; it marked the genesis of a vision by Kent Crook, a veteran business leader with a heart committed to Miami.
Kent Crook’s deep-seated commitment to the community is evident in his multifaceted engagements. Serving South Florida for over three decades, he has played pivotal roles in various organizations, focusing on business, health, education, and conservation. His journey has always been about more than business; it’s about lighting up the community both literally, with his solar energy contributions, and metaphorically, with his leadership.
Under the auspices of CCOGM, the aim was clear: guide, encourage, and provide opportunities for the faithful to impact the community positively.
In the coming months within the first year, the Chamber’s wings spread wider. Spearheaded by Wilson Alvarez, who was handpicked by Kent, the organization saw rapid growth. Within a mere six months, membership skyrocketed to 100, with events occurring twice monthly. As time progressed, branches sprouted in Broward, Homestead, and Kendall.
The Chamber’s partnership with local organizations such as the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Christ Fellowship’s Backpack Program, and Read2Succeed resonates with its mission. While the Fellowship of Christian Athletes worked tirelessly to influence individuals via coaches and athletes, the Backpack Program took on the monumental task of ensuring no child went to bed hungry. On the other hand, Read2Succeed tackled the pressing issue of illiteracy among children, driving them toward academic excellence.
Thomas Edison once said, “Our greatest weakness lies in giving up. The most certain way to succeed is always to try just one more time.” This resonates with the Chamber’s journey, which, despite its successes, faced challenges with the advent of the Covid crisis. Many organizations, including CCOGM, faced unprecedented trials. But the legacy Kent Crook established, and the Chamber’s footprint in the community, is a testament that with faith, persistence, and unity, there will always be a dawn after the darkest night.
The takeaway? The journey of CCOGM serves as a beacon for organizations worldwide. It exemplifies how faith, combined with action and collaboration, can create waves of positive change, even in challenging times.
As we await the Christian Chamber’s new chapter, let us remember the legacy, the impact, and the vision set forth. For anyone inspired by this tale, now is the time to act, to join hands and be the change-makers our communities so desperately need. Because the story of CCOGM is far from over; it’s merely waiting for its next chapter to be written by people like you.
