The City of Doralâs name comes from a combination of the first names of Doris and Alfred Kaskel, the original 1960âs landowners who built a hotel and golf course they named the Doral Hotel and Country Club. The Kaskels owned two beachfront hotels as well and shuttled the guests between properties so that they could enjoy a day at the beach or a game of golf in Doral. The Kaskels hosted a major PGA event called the Doral Open Invitational at the Country Club and attracted the best professional golfers with top prize money. The tournament is still held every year on the TPC Blue Monster at the Doral Resort and Spa.
