The Coral Gables Woman’s Club began in 1923 with its members consisting of homemakers and professionals of all ages from Miami-Dade and Broward counties. Commitment to making South Florida a better place to live by and helping other organizations with community projects is their common bond. The clubhouse which was built in 1937, is a one story limestone tile roof building with coral rock that was donated by the city of Coral Gables from their own limestone quarry and was built on city owned property and turned over to the Woman’s Club twenty years after it was built. It is listed as number nineteen on the list of historic landmarks in Coral Gables. Their community service programs include arts, education, conservation, home life, public issues, International outreach and communications and public relations. The Junior League of Miami celebrates 85 years of service empowering women, children and families to conquer tomorrow’s challenges. The Junior League of Miami Foundation began in 2004 as a not-for-profit 501 (c) (3) organization to help secure funding for the Junior League of Miami. Developing the potential of women, promoting volunteerism and improving communities through leadership and action of trained volunteers is their mission. The Junior League of Miami Foundation has nearly one million dollars in assets and completely benefits The Junior League of Miami and its future programs. The Junior League of Miami has many important projects that they have established such as the Miami Science Museum, Coral Gables Merrick House, Children’s Home Society, and Inn Transition North and South. The Guardian Ad Litem Project has funded many other projects including a wellness program at Camillus House, Kristi House Project Gold, Casa Valentina, therapy dogs and project lift for Lotus House.
