Carnaval on the Mile 2024

Carnaval on the Mile 2024

Nestled in the heart of Coral Gables, Florida, lies a vibrant celebration of art, culture, and community spirit known as “Carnaval on the Mile.” Originally established in 1924, this festival, often affectionately referred to as the Coral Gables Art Festival, has become a cherished tradition for locals and visitors alike.
Every year, usually following the South Miami Arts Festival and the Coconut Grove Arts Festival, Carnaval on the Mile takes center stage to showcase the diverse talents of both local and international artists. Supported by a coalition of local businesses, organizations, and the City of Coral Gables, the festival provides a dynamic platform for artists to exhibit their creations, fostering a rich tapestry of creativity and expression.
My recent visit to the festival on March 2, 2024, provided a memorable experience, particularly with the live performance by the Whiskey Allstars on The Douglas Avenue Stage. Led by Rick Sanchez, a Miami native and Columbus High School alum (Class of 84), the band’s electrifying performance captivated the audience with their blend of country and rock music. Joining Rick were his fellow bandmates, including Superstar drummer Mike Abay on drums, Sergio “El Indio” Raveiro on bass, and Nelson Rodriguez on guitar. Rick’s persona, characterized by his laid-back demeanor and distinctive attire of “chancletas” and a fedora, added a unique charm to the evening. if you’re interested in seeing Whiskey Allstars, you are in luck. They play at Bougainvilleas’s in South Miami every Sunday, as rick says, they play around 6ish… y mañana hay escuela!
On Sunday, March 3rd, a tradition among my friends and acquaintances from the 80s led me back to the festival, where we reunite, say hello, and reminisce. It was a nostalgic journey, reminiscent of our high school days when Sundays were reserved for reconnecting with familiar faces. Among the crowd, I encountered Rosemary Guilfoyle, a Southwest High School graduate, now a Wealth Advisor with Private Wealth Management of Coral Gables. Her invitation to explore the firm, led by owner Al Maulini, exemplified the spirit of community and connection nurtured by events like Carnaval on the Mile. She invited me to her office, gave us a tour, and introduced us to the owner, Al Maulini. During our conversation, Al shared insights into his journey as a successful firm owner and his vision for the future. I invite you to call Rosemary at 786-298-0312 for all your wealth management needs and to experience Al’s beautiful office and concept firsthand.
As we reminisce about the vibrant atmosphere and cherished memories of Carnaval on the Mile, let us also embrace the values of community and connection it represents. Whether it’s through art, music, or simply sharing stories with old friends, let us continue to celebrate the rich tapestry of life that binds us together.
Carnaval on the Mile isn’t just an art festival; it’s a testament to the enduring spirit of community and connection. Through its vibrant celebrations and shared experiences, it reminds us of the importance of fostering connections and preserving traditions.
Embrace the spirit of community and connection embodied by Carnaval on the Mile. Attend the festival, support local artists, and reconnect with old friends. Let’s continue to celebrate the rich tapestry of life that unites us all.

Leaping Beyond Boundaries: The 2024 BNI Alliance Event with a Twist

Leaping Beyond Boundaries: The 2024 BNI Alliance Event with a Twist
In the world of business, networking is the lifeline that connects the dots between opportunity and success. This year 2024, on the rare occasion of February 29th, the BNI Alliance chapter hosted an event, they do this every last Thursday of the month and it perfectly encapsulated the essence of effective networking. However, this was not just any event; it was enriched by the inclusion of several business associates invited by Wilson Alvarez of 305SocialMedia.com. This blend of BNI Alliance’s structured networking prowess with Wilson’s personal touch transformed the evening into a memorable leap year celebration.
Quality vs. quantity… from 5:30 to 8:00 PM, the atmosphere at Fogo de Chao was electric with the buzz of business cards being exchanged, laughter echoing, and meaningful business conversations unfolding. This synergy of professional camaraderie and festive spirit made the event stand out, marking it as a beacon of networking success.
Wilson Alvarez, a BNI Alliance member, has made it a tradition every four years to host a business gathering on Leap Year. He believes, “On this rare day, let’s leap beyond boundaries, for the 29th is not just another date—it’s a chance to stretch further, reach higher, and connect deeper.” This philosophy was vividly brought to life as BNI members and Wilson’s guests mingled, sharing insights and forging connections that promised to go beyond mere business transactions.
Among the attendees were notable BNI chapter members like Ann Nunez of SEO Needed, Sarah Desamours of Douglas Elliman, and Alex Venot of Edward Jones. Their presence, alongside out-of-chapter guests such as zoning & permitting expert Anne-Christine Carie and interior designer Stefania Harangus, added a rich diversity to the networking experience. The event was further graced by the surprise attendance of Dinah Pena and Ivette Day from the West Kendall Business Association, highlighting the wide-reaching appeal and success of the gathering.
Reflecting on the evening, a famous quote by Helen Keller comes to mind: “Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much.” This sentiment perfectly encapsulates the spirit of the BNI Alliance event, demonstrating how collective efforts in networking can lead to greater achievements than solitary endeavors.
The takeaway from this event is clear: Networking is not just about building a list of contacts; it’s about creating a community of support and opportunity. The 2024 Leap Year event hosted by BNI Alliance, with a special contribution from Wilson Alvarez, underscored the power of coming together to share, learn, and grow.
As we look forward to 2028, let’s carry forward the momentum and the lessons learned from this leap year’s gathering. If you’re inspired to expand your professional network and want to be part of future events that leap beyond boundaries, reach out to 305SocialMedia.com at 305-386-6165 or contact Wilson Alvarez directly. Let’s embrace the opportunity to connect, collaborate, and succeed together.

Mike Lowell’s story is a compelling narrative of dedication, resilience, and success, both on and off the baseball diamond. Born in San Juan, Puerto Rico, and raised in Miami, Florida, Lowell’s journey to Major League Baseball (MLB) stardom is a testament to his hard work and passion for the game. A graduate of Coral Gables Senior High School, Lowell’s talent on the field was evident early on, paving the way for his professional career.
After excelling in high school, Lowell’s prowess continued to shine through his Triple-A experience, setting a strong foundation for his transition to the major leagues. His MLB career, most notably with the Boston Red Sox, was marked by significant achievements, including being a four-time All-Star and winning the 2007 World Series MVP. Lowell’s contributions to the Red Sox were instrumental in their 2007 World Series victory, solidifying his legacy within the team and the sport.
Today, Mike Lowell has transitioned from the baseball field to a life of varied interests and pursuits. Beyond his contributions to baseball, Lowell has ventured into the business world, engaging in several endeavors that reflect his diverse interests. From real estate investments to philanthropic efforts, Lowell’s post-MLB career is as dynamic and impactful as his time on the field.
A quote by Babe Ruth, “It’s hard to beat a person who never gives up,” resonates with Lowell’s career and life. Despite facing challenges, including a battle with cancer early in his career, Lowell’s perseverance and determination mirrored Ruth’s sentiment, driving him to achieve greatness in baseball and beyond.
