Greater Kendall Business Association March 2024 Signature Luncheon

On March 28th, 2024, at Killian Palms in Kendall, Florida, the Greater Kendall Business Association hosted its March 2024 Signature Luncheon. The event was partially made possible by the sponsorship of Don Van Orsdel, and we were privileged to have Transportation Expert Alice Bravo from Alice Bravo and Associates as our keynote speaker. The gathering began at 11:30 am, providing ample time for networking before the program commenced promptly at 12 pm.
Wilson Alvarez, the association’s President, acknowledged several notable individuals in attendance at the event. Among them were Bob Feltman, a former chair of GKBA, Alyce Kielman, and Lillian Ser, both former board members. A special mention was made for a dear friend, Mr. Ricardo Forbes of Baptist Health, a retired trustee member, with whom Alvarez often enjoyed post-golf lunch discussions alongside GKBA’s founder, Jorge Peña. These interactions were marked by enriching business conversations, underscoring the significance of their presence at the luncheon.
Michael Miller from Community Newspapers introduced our keynote speaker, Alice Bravo of Alice Bravo & Associates. Alice shared her insights on various county corridors, shedding light on her extensive involvement. Following her informative talk, Alice graciously fielded transportation-related questions from the audience. She also touched on EVTOL technology, a topic close to many hearts, including mine. Like something out of the Jetsons, EVTOL represents an exciting glimpse into the future of transportation, and Alice’s discussion brought that vision to life.
Wilson Alvarez said; “You can tell a speaker has truly captivated the audience when you open the floor for questions and hands shoot up eagerly. It’s an exhilarating moment, a testament to the speaker’s ability to engage and inspire.”
The event was graciously partly sponsored by Don Van Orsdel, who will soon celebrate his 100th anniversary on April 18, 2024. The Greater Kendall Business Association is proud to be a part of this milestone celebration. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Don for his ongoing support and membership with the GKBA. Don’s compassion and reliability have been a source of comfort for my family during difficult times. From laying to rest both my parents and in-laws, Don and his team have always been incredibly caring and attentive to our needs. We offer a special thank you to Don for his awesomeness!
Among the attendees were notable figures such as Nicolas de la Portilla from US Century Bank, recognized as a Rising Star in the banking industry. A delightful surprise came with the visit of Ricardo Forbes, now enjoying retirement after serving as the Chief Diversification Officer for Baptist Health. Additionally, we welcomed Rosalinda O’Neill, the first person to register for the event, and a devoted supporter of our association since 2019.

Participating in Miami’s Trade Shows and Expos

Participating in Miami’s Trade Shows and Expos
Participating in trade shows and expos in Miami can provide significant benefits for your business, from increasing brand visibility to generating leads and building industry connections. Miami’s vibrant business landscape hosts numerous trade shows and expos across various industries, offering ample opportunities to showcase your products or services. This blog explores strategies for maximizing your participation in these events to drive business growth.
Choosing the Right Trade Shows and Expos
Selecting the right trade shows and expos to attend is crucial. Focus on events that align with your industry and target audience. Research upcoming trade shows and expos in Miami, such as the Miami International Boat Show, Miami Book Fair, and Art Basel. Consider the event’s reputation, attendee demographics, and previous years’ success to determine the best fit for your business.
Planning and Preparation
Effective planning and preparation are key to a successful trade show experience. Start by setting clear objectives, such as generating leads, launching a new product, or increasing brand awareness. Ensure you have a well-designed booth that reflects your brand’s image and attracts attention. Invest in high-quality displays, banners, and promotional materials to make a strong impression.
Engaging Booth Design
Your booth design plays a significant role in attracting visitors. Create an engaging and interactive booth that stands out from the competition. Use eye-catching graphics, digital displays, and product demonstrations to draw attendees in. Consider offering hands-on experiences or live demonstrations to showcase your products or services effectively. Make sure your booth staff is well-trained, knowledgeable, and approachable.
Promotional Strategies
Promote your participation in the trade show or expo before, during, and after the event. Use social media, email marketing, and your website to announce your presence and invite attendees to visit your booth. Offer exclusive promotions or giveaways to incentivize visitors. During the event, engage with attendees through live social media updates, contests, and interactive activities.
Networking Opportunities
Trade shows and expos provide excellent networking opportunities. Take advantage of this by connecting with other exhibitors, industry leaders, and potential clients. Attend networking events, seminars, and panel discussions to expand your professional network. Exchange business cards, set up meetings, and follow up with new contacts after the event to build lasting relationships.
Collecting and Managing Leads
One of the primary goals of participating in trade shows is lead generation. Have a system in place for collecting and managing leads efficiently. Use lead capture forms, business card scanners, or digital lead capture apps to gather contact information. After the event, promptly follow up with leads to nurture them into potential customers. Personalize your follow-up messages based on the conversations you had at the event.
Measuring Success
Evaluate the success of your trade show participation by measuring key performance indicators (KPIs) such as the number of leads generated, sales made, and overall return on investment (ROI). Analyze what worked well and identify areas for improvement. Use this information to refine your strategy for future events.
As Henry Ford once said, “Coming together is a beginning; keeping together is progress; working together is success.” This quote underscores the importance of collaboration and teamwork, which are essential for making the most of trade show opportunities.

Utilizing Data Analytics to Understand Miami’s Market Trends

Utilizing Data Analytics to Understand Miami’s Market Trends
In today’s competitive business environment, utilizing data analytics to understand market trends is essential for making informed decisions and driving growth. Miami’s dynamic market presents unique opportunities and challenges, making it crucial for businesses to leverage data analytics effectively. This blog explores strategies for using data analytics to gain insights into Miami’s market trends and optimize your business operations.
The Importance of Data Analytics
Data analytics involves examining raw data to draw meaningful insights and make informed decisions. By analyzing market trends, customer behavior, and operational performance, businesses can identify opportunities for growth, improve efficiency, and enhance customer satisfaction. In Miami, where the market is diverse and ever-changing, data analytics can provide a competitive edge.
Collecting Relevant Data
The first step in utilizing data analytics is collecting relevant data. This can include:

Customer Data: Gather information on customer demographics, preferences, purchase history, and feedback.
Sales Data: Track sales performance, revenue trends, and product or service popularity.
Market Data: Analyze industry reports, competitor analysis, and economic indicators specific to Miami.
Social Media Data: Monitor social media activity, engagement, and sentiment analysis to understand public perception and trends.

Using Analytics Tools
Leverage analytics tools to process and analyze your data effectively. Tools like Google Analytics, Tableau, and Power BI can help you visualize data, identify patterns, and generate actionable insights. These tools enable you to track key performance indicators (KPIs), monitor trends, and make data-driven decisions.
Identifying Market Trends
Data analytics can help you identify emerging market trends and consumer behaviors in Miami. Look for patterns in your data that indicate shifts in customer preferences, seasonal trends, and emerging market segments. For example, you might discover a growing demand for eco-friendly products or an increase in online shopping during specific times of the year.
Optimizing Marketing Strategies
Use data insights to optimize your marketing strategies. Segment your audience based on their behavior and preferences, and tailor your marketing campaigns accordingly. For instance, if data shows that a significant portion of your customers are millennials, focus on digital marketing channels like social media and influencer partnerships. Additionally, track the performance of your campaigns and adjust them based on data-driven feedback.
Improving Customer Experience
Data analytics can enhance customer experience by identifying pain points and areas for improvement. Analyze customer feedback and behavior to understand their needs and preferences better. Implement changes that address their concerns, such as improving product quality, streamlining the purchasing process, or offering personalized recommendations.
Enhancing Operational Efficiency
Optimize your business operations by analyzing data related to supply chain, inventory management, and employee performance. Identify inefficiencies and areas for cost reduction. For example, data might reveal that certain products have a high return rate, indicating a need for quality improvement or better product descriptions. Streamlining operations based on data insights can lead to significant cost savings and improved productivity.
As Peter Drucker famously said, “What gets measured gets managed.” This quote highlights the importance of measuring and analyzing data to manage and improve business performance. By leveraging data analytics, you can gain valuable insights and make informed decisions that drive growth.
Utilizing data analytics to understand Miami’s market trends is crucial for staying competitive and driving business growth. By collecting relevant data, using analytics tools, and applying insights to optimize marketing strategies, customer experience, and operations, you can achieve sustainable success.

Celebrating St. Patrick’s Day Parade in Coral Gables with WideAwake Tribute Band
The St. Patrick’s Day parade in Coral Gables, sponsored by John Martin’s, proved to be another resounding success. Beyond the festivities, it was an opportunity for networking and reconnecting with old acquaintances. The highlight of the event was the performance by WideAwake, a tribute band renowned for their authentic renditions of U2’s iconic songs.
WideAwake, formed in 2017, has been delighting U2 fans with their energetic performances. Lead singer Thomas Blanco, also known as “Bono,” along with band members Alan Garcia (“The Edge”), Heather Wannlund (“Adam Clayton”/”Anna Clayton”), and Daniel Dumire (“Larry Mullen Jr.”), captivated the audience with their passion and faithfulness to the original sound.
For many attendees, including myself, the event offered more than just entertainment. It was a chance to forge valuable connections and explore potential business opportunities. As I mingled with the crowd, I unexpectedly crossed paths with a major client, leading to additional work prospects—a reminder that business and pleasure can intersect in unexpected ways.
The tradition of the St. Patrick’s Day parade in Coral Gables, supported by John Martin’s, dates back years, symbolizing a celebration of Irish heritage and community spirit. Just as this event brings people together to celebrate, it also serves as a reminder of the importance of fostering relationships in the business world.

GKBA Power Breakfast March 2024

Embracing the Spirit of Servant Leadership: Insights from GKBA Luncheon

The Greater Kendall Business Association (GKBA) recently reconvened at Killian Palms Golf Course, marking a nostalgic return to its luncheon tradition after a hiatus since 2020. The meeting was led by Wilson Alvarez, the event saw 72 attendees, including legacy members like Javier Saborio of Power Financial Credit Union, Jan Hurley of Hurley Health Resources, and Robert Antoncich of Living Air, among others.
Amidst the camaraderie, Joy Galliford set a reverent tone with a heartfelt invocation, setting the stage for the keynote address by Anthony Cruz, President of Miami Dade Community College Kendall Campus. Cruz’s speech, titled “The Power of Servant Leadership,” echoed Robert Greenleaf’s sentiment: “Good leaders must first become good servants.”
Cruz outlined key characteristics of servant leadership, emphasizing traits like empathy, active listening, awareness, persuasion, and a commitment to the growth of individuals and the community. He underscored the significance of servant leadership in fostering better teamwork, strategic thinking, innovation, increased productivity, and grooming future leaders while enhancing both employee retention and customer satisfaction.
However, Cruz also highlighted potential challenges, noting that servant leadership might prolong decision-making processes, necessitate organizational culture shifts, and occasionally diminish the leader’s perceived authority.
Karen Vassell of Baptist Health, the event’s sponsor, shed light on the importance of health screenings, specifically addressing calcium deposits’ role in cardiovascular health. Her insights complemented Cruz’s discourse, illustrating how servant leadership extends beyond the boardroom into community welfare.
The luncheon not only served as a platform for networking and professional development but also reignited the GKBA’s commitment to its members’ holistic growth and the broader Kendall community’s welfare.
As attendees savored the reunion and absorbed Cruz’s wisdom, the palpable energy in the air signaled a reinvigorated spirit of collaboration and service. With 72 business professionals in attendance, the GKBA’s return to Killian Greens marked not just a nostalgic reunion, but a reaffirmation of its mission to cultivate servant leaders and foster a thriving business ecosystem in West Kendall.
