Believe it or not, there exists a place where people don’t care about fashion week or “Fall 2016″ and it’s called Miami Beach. Here, far beyond the walls of Milk Studios, the tides turned, the mojitos flowed, and the crowds shamelessly popped their polo shirt collars with abandon while the rest of the fashion establishment shivered in between shows and presentations.
Ciara and models Nina Agdal and Chanel Iman were among those who fled New York this past weekend for Veuve Clicquot’s annual “Carnaval” — a VIP version of the legendary Brazilian parade and alcohol and food binge-fest that takes place every year before Lent. Veuve Clicquot’s cause for sponsoring the powwow was to pour out its newest iced Champagne: “Rich.”
For the occasion, Museum Park, located in the Miami mainland but a 15-minute drive from South Beach, was colonized by winged women on swings, fancy food trucks, and makeup artists and hairstylists offering guests the flashy eyeshadow and braids that you might find on Rihanna. Attendees traded traditional carnival masks and costumes for their own extravagant displays of tropical swagger, including sky-high espadrille wedges and every print under the sun, literally. Finally, the highlight of the day was a salsa performance featuring gyrating dancers in beaded bathing suits and feathered crowns, who were followed around by a whizzing camera drone. Those hoping for a more authentic carnival experience would have found it nearby at the Pérez Art Museum exhibit of the Dominican artist Firelei Báez, who deals with black culture and Caribbean themes in his work…….

The pre-Broadway run of the Newfoundland-set musical Come From Away, the latest spectacle from Quebec circus troupe The 7 Fingers, a thriller from Toronto playwright Nicolas Billon – and Canadian stage legend Fiona Reid as Queen Elizabeth II.
All feature prominently in the 2016-2017 Mirvish Productions lineup announced on Tuesday morning, one that gives fans of Canadian theatre plenty to celebrate.
Commercial producer David Mirvish’s main seven-show subscription series features five musicals in total – starting with the final pre-Broadway stop ofCome From Away, a heart-warming musical from the Toronto-based husband-and-wife team of David Hein and Irene Sankoff, set in Gander after planes from around the world were diverted there on 9/11.
Two West End musicals adapted from movies arrive next in February, 2017:The Bodyguard, based on the 1992 romantic thriller starring Whitney Houston; and Mrs Henderson Presents, adapted from a 2005 Judi Dench movie about a widow who adds nudity to the bill at a London theatre during the Second World War….

STAMFORD, CT—Tribute Portfolio, part of Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, has signed a new boutique hotel in Denver.
Slated to open in September 2018, the 165-room new-build will be situated in Lower Highlands (LoHi) on the west side of downtown Denver. Marking the 14th property signing since launching last April, Tribute Portfolio is poised to double its initial first-year growth projections, with more than 20 hotels open or in queue by this spring, according to Starwood.
The new hotel, whose name will be released later this year, will offer Linger, a bar and restaurant located in a former mortuary, and Little Man Ice Cream, built in a 28-ft. tall, 14,000-lb. cream can. In addition to offering views of downtown Denver from its rooms and rooftop, the new LoHi hotel will also be near Downtown Denver, numerous art museums and venues and local sports arenas, Pepsi Center, Mile High Stadium and Coors Field, according to Starwood Hotels & Resorts.
Tribute Portfolio debuted in April 2015 with its first hotel, the Royal Palm South Beach Miami, and has since opened five additional properties: the Great Northern Hotel in London; The Kiroro Resort in Hokkaido, Japan; The Hermitage in Jakarta, Indonesia; the SLS Las Vegas in Las Vegas; and the Riviera Palm Springs in Palm Springs, CA.
