The Greater Kendall Business Association recently hosted its highly anticipated Power Breakfast on April 4th, 2024, and what a morning it was! Attendees gathered at the event to network, gain valuable insights, and celebrate the spirit of entrepreneurship that thrives in our vibrant city.
One of the highlights of the morning was the engaging presentation delivered by Lillian Ser and her partner Zachariah Evangelista. Lillian, the Founding and Managing Attorney of Ser & Associates, captivated the audience with her passion for helping small businesses succeed. With over two decades of legal experience and a deep understanding of the unique challenges faced by entrepreneurs, Lillian’s expertise shone through as she shared practical advice and strategies for business growth.
At the heart of the event was a sense of gratitude and appreciation for the support of SER Associates, the proud sponsor of the Power Breakfast. SER Associates, a minority-owned, female-owned boutique law firm, is committed to providing accessible legal guidance to individuals and businesses alike. Their partnership with the Greater Kendall Business Association underscores their dedication to fostering a thriving business ecosystem in our community.
Reflecting on the morning’s proceedings, I am reminded of the words of Helen Keller: “Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much.” Indeed, the collaboration between the Greater Kendall Business Association and SER Associates exemplifies the collective strength and potential of our business community. By coming together, sharing knowledge, and supporting one another, we can achieve remarkable success.

The Best Organic Eats in Coconut Grove

Farm to Table: The Best Organic Eats in Coconut Grove
When you dine farm-to-table, you’re not just eating; you’re participating in a sustainable future.
-Wilson Alvarez
In the heart of Miami, Coconut Grove thrives as a sanctuary for those who cherish sustainability and fresh, organic food. The neighborhood’s farm-to-table restaurants are a testament to this ethos, offering diners not only meals filled with flavor but also peace of mind, knowing their food is sourced responsibly.
These establishments are pillars of the community, partnering with local farms and artisans to bring the freshest ingredients to their tables. Each dish served is a celebration of the local agriculture and showcases the rich bounty that Florida’s climate and soil have to offer. From crisp, sun-kissed vegetables to organically raised meats, every meal is a testament to quality and care.
Patrons of these restaurants can taste the difference in dishes where the natural flavors are allowed to shine through. Menus change seasonally, depending on what the local markets bring forth, ensuring that guests always have something new and exciting to try. This commitment to fresh, organic ingredients not only supports local farmers but also helps in reducing the carbon footprint associated with long-distance food transport.
Reflecting on the importance of these choices, environmentalist Wendell Berry once said, “Eating is an agricultural act.” This quote encapsulates the philosophy of Coconut Grove’s farm-to-table restaurants, where dining is a form of participation in the local ecosystem, promoting a sustainable and healthy food culture.
The farm-to-table movement in Coconut Grove is more than just a dining trend; it is a commitment to sustainability, community, and health. These restaurants offer a culinary experience that is both delicious and conscientious, truly reflecting the spirit of the Grove.

Greater Kendall Business Association March 2024 Signature Luncheon

On March 28th, 2024, at Killian Palms in Kendall, Florida, the Greater Kendall Business Association hosted its March 2024 Signature Luncheon. The event was partially made possible by the sponsorship of Don Van Orsdel, and we were privileged to have Transportation Expert Alice Bravo from Alice Bravo and Associates as our keynote speaker. The gathering began at 11:30 am, providing ample time for networking before the program commenced promptly at 12 pm.
Wilson Alvarez, the association’s President, acknowledged several notable individuals in attendance at the event. Among them were Bob Feltman, a former chair of GKBA, Alyce Kielman, and Lillian Ser, both former board members. A special mention was made for a dear friend, Mr. Ricardo Forbes of Baptist Health, a retired trustee member, with whom Alvarez often enjoyed post-golf lunch discussions alongside GKBA’s founder, Jorge Peña. These interactions were marked by enriching business conversations, underscoring the significance of their presence at the luncheon.
Michael Miller from Community Newspapers introduced our keynote speaker, Alice Bravo of Alice Bravo & Associates. Alice shared her insights on various county corridors, shedding light on her extensive involvement. Following her informative talk, Alice graciously fielded transportation-related questions from the audience. She also touched on EVTOL technology, a topic close to many hearts, including mine. Like something out of the Jetsons, EVTOL represents an exciting glimpse into the future of transportation, and Alice’s discussion brought that vision to life.
Wilson Alvarez said; “You can tell a speaker has truly captivated the audience when you open the floor for questions and hands shoot up eagerly. It’s an exhilarating moment, a testament to the speaker’s ability to engage and inspire.”
The event was graciously partly sponsored by Don Van Orsdel, who will soon celebrate his 100th anniversary on April 18, 2024. The Greater Kendall Business Association is proud to be a part of this milestone celebration. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Don for his ongoing support and membership with the GKBA. Don’s compassion and reliability have been a source of comfort for my family during difficult times. From laying to rest both my parents and in-laws, Don and his team have always been incredibly caring and attentive to our needs. We offer a special thank you to Don for his awesomeness!
Among the attendees were notable figures such as Nicolas de la Portilla from US Century Bank, recognized as a Rising Star in the banking industry. A delightful surprise came with the visit of Ricardo Forbes, now enjoying retirement after serving as the Chief Diversification Officer for Baptist Health. Additionally, we welcomed Rosalinda O’Neill, the first person to register for the event, and a devoted supporter of our association since 2019.
