Lucas Museum team unveils new design with more park space : News

CHICAGO (AP) — The team behind George Lucas’ art and movie museum released revised renderings Thursday showing more green space at the Chicago site but no radical changes to the undulating, futuristic building stoking passions in a city that guards its Lake Michigan shoreline with religious-like devotion.
Images that will be presented to City Council next week show designers have significantly shrunk the lakefront building while preserving a smooth, tapering, dune-like form topped with an observation deck resembling a floating disc — a shape that critics have compared to Jabba the Hutt. Defenders of what will be known as the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art, including Mayor Rahm Emanuel, have said the design is loyal to Chicago’s history of making bold architectural statements and its devotion to keeping the lakefront open, accessible and green.

Party before the Art Basel-party to be in West Palm Beach | PostNOW

For years Art Basel has drawn the best of the international art community to Miami Beach each winter.
But now there’s a West Palm Beach gallery operator who wants some of that.
Nicole Henry has organized what she calls an “outdoor version of Art Basel,” Canvas, to serve as an opening and draw some of the Art Basel crowd up to West Palm.
The event will run Nov. 8 to 22 and will feature 20 murals on some West Palm buildings, sculptures, installations and video art.
An early launch party and art auction is scheduled for Oct. 10 to raise money for the nonprofit event. Exact details haven’t been announced yet.
