The purchase of the proper fitting dance costumes and good dance shoes can be a difficult or pleasant experience.  This goes either way, depending on the ability to select the right size by measurement guidelines, a well trained shoe fitter or seamstress, or a designer that can help you with the right style for their body structure.  Buying a costume from catalogs is almost a sure disaster, and will more often than not, require extensive alterations.  Regardless, owning a dancewear store is a very evolving business, which I’ve been doing for 30+ years.  Those that are in the dance show/competition dance industry know that the costume can be as important, to the Judges, as the dance technique itself.

So what to do? How can you avoid last minute worries and excessive expenditure for new costumes and a better fitting new pair of dance shoes?
As a professional in the dance apparel industry, I can tell you that dance costumes fabrics are one of the hardest pieces of clothing to sew because the fabric stretches.
So in order to avoid dealing with the headache of fixing garments made of stretch materials, sequins, glitter and tulle – I strongly suggest that you spend some time studying the measurement chart closely for the company you are ordering from. These guidelines need be followed and measurements taken correctly.
I know! You have already done that and still got your daughter’s costume and it is too big!  Well, something tells me that you didn’t take the measurements the right way.
It is important to understand where to locate four main areas in the body when measuring for a costume – bust, waist, hips and girth (the circumference of the body).

Coconut Grove Sailing Club Sailing Youth Camp: Ages 7-14. June 10th– August 16th. Two week sessions $400 for members and $500 for nonmembers
Coral Reef Sailing Camp: Ages 8-17. Running from June 10th-August 2nd.  For members it is $575 and nonmembers it is $675. Programs for all levels of experience.
Cliff Drysdale Tennis Center: Ages 7-16. 12 sessions, June 7th-August 27th. $260 half-day and $355 full day each session.
Fit2Play: Ages 6-14. Running June 10th-August 16th. $40-$90 per week
 The Growing Place: Ages Early 3’s- Entering 1st Grade. Running from July 8th-August 2nd. Each session is 2 weeks and is $260.
 La Prima Casa: Ages infant to 6. Running June 17th– August 16th. Full day $450 and half day $350.
 Miami-Dade College Summer Camp: Ages 7-17. Pricing and schedule varies.

 University of Miami Summer Theatre Academy: Ages 1st-10th grades. Full six weeks $1300-$1500 and half sessions $700-$800.
