Palmer Trinity’s World Language Teacher Speaks at This Year’s Central State Conference

MIAMI — March 30, 2017 — Raúl González, a Spanish teacher in the World Languages Department at Palmer Trinity School, was a guest speaker at this year’s Central States Conference on the Teaching of Foreign Languages. The conference was held in Chicago from March 9-11 at The Palmer House Hilton.
The conference included approximately 300 workshops and sessions presented by world language teachers at all levels of instruction including high school, college and university.
Gonzalez’s Spanish presentation, “Jose Marti: Understanding the Sociopolitical Context Behind His Work,” provided strategies to improve a student’s performance in AP Spanish literature and culture. This included a broadening of the background of Jose Marti’s work and the social and political culture that surrounded Cuba during the years prior to the Spanish-American War.
Participants learned comparison techniques in order to enhance students’ proficiency in comparing Marti’s works to others and improve their performance on the AP Spanish literature and cultural exam.
Some of the conference highlights included exploring ways to help students succeed in a global society, exploring the use of technology, and learning techniques to motivate and stretch language proficiency.
