The Mississippi Arts and Entertainment Center is now The Mississippi Arts and Entertainment Experience, The name change came after board members felt that "experience" best explains how they want people to enjoy the arts in Mississippi. The announcement was made at the groundbreaking ceremony Saturday, in which hundreds attended.
"This is a great step forward," MAEE Board President Tommy Dulaney said. "It’s something that we’ve been looking forward to for quite a while. We’ll be going out for some bid packages probably within the next few weeks and you’ll see some construction beginning hopefully within the next four to six weeks."

Haley Heesacker, 26, saw an opportunity to provide fellow fine arts students with a temporary study space, one that lends itself to learning about the classics. Last week, she and fellow arts student Michael Johnson unveiled an exhibit that combines fine art and functionality into a potentially great study space — or Instagram post, the Lincoln Journal Star (http://bit.ly/1LMkoOk ) reported. The two members of the Sits and Giggles collective created a 3-D rendition of "Bedroom in Arles," the broad-lined, distinctly colored painting by Vincent Van Gogh of his own sleeping quarters. German art historian Hartwig Fischer is to replace Neil MacGregor as director of the British Museum.

Prime Minister David Cameron approved the appointment on Monday and MacGregor said he was the "perfect choice".
Dr Fischer, who will take up the post in Spring 2016, described the museum as "a model of public engagement, critical scholarship, and international outreach".
He is currently director general of the Dresden State Art Collections.

"Spring Awakening," which opened Sunday at the Brooks Atkinson Theatre, mixes hearing and deaf performers with elegant ease, adding new depth to a show about the dangers of failing to communicate. Deaf actors communicate to the hearing audience by relying on colleagues elsewhere onstage to provide their spoken dialogue and singing voice, like alter egos. "Spring Awakening" focuses most prominently on three youngsters — Melchoir, the defiant but popular and handsome rebel (played by Austin McKenzie); Wendla, the shy young woman determined to learn about sex (acted by Sandra Mae Frank, voiced by Katie Boeck); and Moritz, done in by the repressive society around him (played by Daniel N. Durant, voiced by Alex Boniello). The language is coarse and plot points include premarital sex, abortion, homosexuality, autoerotism, sadomasochism and incest. Many of the songs — including "Mamma Who Bore Me" and "The Bitch of Living" — haven’t lost their vitality and there is simple elegance when cast members hold each other tight to become a tree or leap around with tiny flashlights attached to their fingers to perform "The Mirror-Blue Night" (perhaps inspired by the lyric "flip on a switch")
